Cleaned out and weeded two flower beds and cut back plants and applied compost. Sprayed holly and azalea shrubs with neem for scale. Tidied up hedges with a quick trimming. Raked leaves and built 1 very large compost pile. Also picked figs.

DD you are the busiest gardener! Your on it! Ive still got lots of cleanup work to do- but just been too busy with the kids to get it all done. Been wanting to get my garlic in the ground- haven't gotten to that yet either. I come on here and read how much your getting done and it puts a fire under me again. So thanks for that I've still got peppers growing so I havent wanted to completely pull it all out just yet.

So thanks for that I've still got peppers growing so I havent wanted to completely pull it all out just yet. I don't have kids! That is why I am so tired too. I picked the last of my basil yesterday and pulled it up except for one I left for seeds. The only thing I have growing now is mustard greens and carrots. I did finally get most of the hickory nuts picked up out of the yard and burned. Good Lord that was a job.

Took advantage of a rainy Monday and dehydrated some more frozen blueberries. Worked on picking out more walnuts. Made a squirrel pie for my husband because he was craving one Lol!

Bagged up dehydrated figs, roasted walnuts and dehydrated blueberries. Rain is moving in and the forecast is rain for the next 4 days. Once the storms move through I will have to get out and pick up hickory nuts out of the yard again so we can mow. Had a light patchy frost night before last. All the houseplants are in the house tucked in though.

My husband and son went to visit family for a few days, while I took care of a pet here at home. So been spending my time painting some walls and decluttering. It has been so wonderful to declutter and do something not garden related. All that ends tomorrow evening as we are getting our first temps in the low 30's. Time to pick the garden beds clean!
Contemplating buying those fruit trees asap.

Picked out and roasted 12 pounds of walnuts and bagged to go into the freezer over the weekend while watching it rain. Still have lots to go. Calling for the possibility of ice on Thursday here and a low of 31 tomorrow night.

Spent yesterday raking leaves, turning compost, burning sticks and limbs picked up from the last storm. Picked my last picking of figs for the year. Gathered some okra seeds off the new okra variety "hard hitter" that I tried this year. By the way I liked it. Think it will become my new go to okra crop choice. Hope to get the worm bins cleaned out this week. Just another week of work.

Its suppose to freeze here in kentucky tonight. I have still had peppers growing pretty steady in my garden, so I went and picked everything off tonight. I've enjoyed having the longer growing season this year. Last year we froze much sooner.

My mother used to make a pie filling similar to mincemeat from green tomatoes and raisins to can. It was delicious but I have not canned it. My husband des not like mincemeat. I love it. Such is life.....

Been working hard on walnuts. Down to the last 6 five gallon buckets. Boy do I have a bunch of nuts in the freezer but they are sure expensive in the store so it is worth it to me.
Yesterday I laid some more compost as mulch around my Nanking cherry trees, made 2 new compost piles with chopped fall leaves and the straw from the chicken bedding. Today I hope to clean out and prune some more blackberry bushes.

Long day in the garden yesterday. Can you believe that I am still weeding. Turning compost piles again daily, but it is too windy today to do leaves so I will do some more weeding and cleaning. Cut back the lemon balm and mint and got some more walnuts picked out last night. Cottage pie for supper.
