Sausage and peppers yesterday turned out great! Got a lot done on the beds cleaning and pulling weeds. Started one compost pile will add to it today. Picked a couple cabbage and a bunch of peppers to preserve. Not sure yet what I will do with them. Another crockpot meal today. Pork pieces cooked with pineapple, peppers, mushrooms and a sauce makes a great dish over noodles. Will use up some of those peppers. Today's agenda cutting and burning asparagus tops, picking figs and yet more cleaning and compost pile building as we have quite a bit of stuff piling up to compost and leaves haven't even started falling hard yet. Going to be a busy fall.
Mr DD got both big dog houses bleached and cleaned out. Raked and cleaned out the dog run and sprayed all for fleas. Gave the big dogs flea preventative also. Fleas for some reason always show up here in the fall. An ounce of prevention and all that good stuff.
Everyone stay safe out there
DD

Such wisdom! You are indeed correct and many gardens have not done well this year. Many gardeners also had problems finding seeds and those who did have gardens struggled with supplies to preserve the harvests. Right now those with skills and the foresight to collect these supplies beforehand like canning supplies and such have fared the best. I have to wonder if it is a sign of darker days on the horizon. Prayer and a positive attitude along with a good work ethic are all great survival tools that will help get us through. Thanks DD, we need more prayer and I can do attitudes in this day and time. Challenges are better resolved when more options are available and learned. Think outside of the box before one settles for defeat.

Making tentative plans for adding meat rabbits and quail to our tiny backyard. Reorganizing and thinning out belongings since piles are everywhere.

Got 3 compost piles started but still have a bit of cutting to do so I will be adding to them. Next job is dealing with the cabbage I have picked and some sweet peppers. So looks like I will be making kraut this morning and slicing peppers. Then back to composting beds so I can get the garlic planted. Gee fall sure is busy.

After sleeping most of the day yesterday my throat is feeling a bit better today. On my agenda is finishing kraut. I also made 2 half gallons of fruit liqueurs. One blackberry and one plum. They were easy just sugar, fruit and gin. I will put them in a dark place and shake them once or twice a week for about 6 to 8 weeks then strain and age. Rained about 3 inches over the weekend so pretty soggy to do much outside. SO making kraut and paying bills on my agenda for today.

I am canning pints of ground beef and carrots today. The fall garden is coming along nicely. The two crops I repeatedly have a hard time harvesting in the right time frame are green beans and eggplant. Timing!!!

What makes it even harder is the crazy weather changes the last few years. Wish I had a crystal ball just for the weather

Good morning. Mister DD is under the weather still so it has been a busy morning. Picked 2.5 five gallon buckets of walnuts and poured on the ground to run over. Turned compost piles after taking care of poultry. Picked figs and put them in the dehydrator. Will continue to pick up hickory nuts that the storm blew down. I am hoping to get some mustard greens picked today also.

I have spent the last 3 days burning pignuts, limbs and prunings in the back yard. I am taking the day off. Give myself a rest from all that smoke.

Storms went through last night so lots of hickory nuts down again. UGH guess I will be picking them up again. Low temps for the next 3 night are supposed to be in the upper 30's. Cold weather is coming.

Life is slowing down some here. Bought some broccoli to dehydrate. Gonna can some chicken. Looking forward to some downtime, whatever that is.

Just normal fall stuff now. Raking leaves and such. I am still picking figs and have a couple heads of cabbage and some mustard left in the garden but that is about it really. Mr Dd is working on cleaning and cracking walnuts so I will have to pick them out. That is not a bad job though since it is sitting down.
