So something new I have been thinking about is pulling together herbs and dried fruits for tea blends. The health aspects are big. And hoping to better learn how to get our vitamins from food sources rather than rely on supplements. Yeah. Like I need another project. Lol!

I make an apple tea and an elderberry tea and use herbs like dried mint for hot tea during the winter.

Picked the tomato patch clean yesterday. The last of the tomatoes are on the table and I have a couple ideas on what to do with them. Starting to do some end of season cleanup. Lots of composting to do. Weeded carrots and mustard greens.

Rain day 4. Going to collect some tomato seeds today to start fermenting to save. Can you believe there are leaves falling.

A sure sign fall is very near. When you say you are fermenting tomato seeds to save. Exactly what is your method, if you do not mind sharing. Thanks in advance. Traditionally I was taught to spread seeds thin on tin pie plates and place in sunny area until they dried out naturally.

I put mine in water and the good seeds will sink the bad ones float along with any tomato flesh remaining. I let it ferment for about 24 hours then rinse in a colander and spread the seeds out to dry.

Rain Day 5. ained most of the night and into this morning. We need an ark. Rain is beginning to clear and better weather predicted for weekend and next week. This has been one of the most challenging summers to be productive outside. Gardens that survived the rain were fortunate as many gardens did not do well. Blessings is sometimes oversighted. We need more prayer and "I can do" attitudes to achieve better days ahead. One day at a time, teamwork and compassion. Pioneer skills are more essential than ever. Ones who have these skills could run circle saws around those who have not had these skills shared with them. I might get knocked down, but I will get back up and go again. Blessings to all who try and want better days!

Such wisdom! You are indeed correct and many gardens have not done well this year. Many gardeners also had problems finding seeds and those who did have gardens struggled with supplies to preserve the harvests. Right now those with skills and the foresight to collect these supplies beforehand like canning supplies and such have fared the best. I have to wonder if it is a sign of darker days on the horizon.
Prayer and a positive attitude along with a good work ethic are all great survival tools that will help get us through.

The rain has finally moved out and we have about a week in the forecast of clear skies. Maybe So I have lit the fireplace for the next couple days of 40 degree night temps. Feels good in the cold morning having a cup of coffee in front of the fire. Gonna take a day or two to dry out a bit to do anything outside. The leaves are starting to fall. We are still picking cucumbers, peppers and looks like I have some cabbage almost ready. The mustard greens and carrots I planted are growing great with all the rain. Will make witer kraut with the cabbage as soon as it is done. Starting fall cleanup burning and cutting back stuff. Have a couple plants I want to move too. Always busy. Will plant garlic the first of October.

Another cool morning. Mr DD is going to try and mow the grass today after the dew lifts. It has taken a bit to dry out from all that rain. I have been gathering flower seeds to save. Have two GIANT yellow squash out in the garden that I am saving for seeds that I need to collect. Sweet potatoes are curing nicely also. Looks like some of my cabbage may be trying to head up. Also going to start cutting asparagus back and burning the tops. Have to stay ahead of the dreaded asparagus beetle. Almost time to start raking leaves.

Not much going on here. Got the back yard mowed and have been cleaning house some. Picked out squash seeds and they are now drying. Rinsed my tomato seeds off and they are now sitting on coffee filters drying. Still really wet soil in the garden so hoping it dries out for a couple more days then back to fall cleaning.

Sausage and peppers in the crockpot on low. To do list for the week plant garlic, make some more compost piles, transplant blackberry sprouts along fence line, cut back grapes. I picked peppers yesterday and also want tto make kraut this week as some of my cabbage is headed up good and ready to pick. I also want to get some brandy started with frozen fruit. Ugh busy week huh !
