Thanks for the well wishes. Truthfully Sonic if it were me I would be going insane. Earlier this year I was on crutches for a bit. Atleast I could still sit and knit and such. I haven't had a broken arm since I was a kid. Not fun! How long are you in a sling?

Beautiful sunny Sunday morning. Waiting for my pears to ripen a bit before canning. Green peppers in dehydrator and then more okra. My granddaughter is recovering from Covid and doing better. Thanks for all the prayers we received from all. Really enjoying these cool temperatures. If you decide to can some pear preserves, they put up fresh from tree, you will not have to wait on the ripening. This helps get the texture that is best. Great to hear your granddaughter is recovering well.

We all got haircuts today. I usually cut my husband's and sons hair. You guys all wanted to know that, right? Also went out to the garden for the first time in WEEKS! Felt so good to be out with the plants and dirt. Apparently we have a 6 foot tall jalapeƱo plant... Picked probably a gallon of peppers, and another gallon of tomatoes. And our first year strawberries have exploded and swamped the devoted bed. They only produce in the spring, and my husband wants to bring in some everbearing strawberries. The weather has been amazing. Really energizes us to finish up projects before fall and winter truly hit us.

2 inches of rain overnight. Peeling pears this morning but decided on a coffee break. My mother in law used to can pears in pineapple juice sometimes for something different, anyone ever heard of that? Laundry on and a little black dog in my lap as I drink my coffee. Pork roast in crock pot for pulled pork tonight. Little nip in the air. Vintage country music in the background. Just a peaceful morning.

I have never been shared this method and it sounds like a new method to add when I do canning in the future.

We have a whole village of tiny finches that have taken over our carport. They have built nests up in the rafters, and told all their friends about our place- to come on over! I don't mind them much, I like to hear them in the morning, but my husband hates the poop all over the camper. Anywho, they are always busy down in my garden stealing whatever falls. I walked through my backyard this evening, and found their planting literally everywhere. Tomato plants in my grass- probably 30 or more plants popping up randomly all over the yard. Plus a section of 8 red leaf lettuce- I had let the plants in my garden go to seed and I guess they like those as well. The grass has been slowing down so my son hasn't mowed for 2 weeks, so I guess thats why I even found them. Too bad they didn't help garden earlier in the year, they are talking about a frost around here next week.

I've not heard of putting Pears up in Pineapple juice, Apple juice yes. I'm very jealous, Pears are my favourite fruit both fresh and preserved. I'm considering some fruit trees for the allotment. We had our first frost at the weekend and today it is a bit chilly and trying to rain. The outside of the house has been waiting to be spruced up all summer, but things got put on hold due to Covid, anyhoo the decorator has finally caught up and made a start yesterday but I'm not sure he'll be here today as the weather is not good. There's a lot of woodwork needs replacing before he can paint. The joys of living in a 120 year old house!

I would leave the seed heads and the finches adored the seeds. They would clean them off every year.

There's a lot of woodwork needs replacing before he can paint. The joys of living in a 120 year old house! I am considering adding a couple Kieffer pear trees to my garden. Apples struggle here because of the late frosts of spring but I see lots of Kieffer pear trees in the area bearing so I think I will give them a try. These pears my husband picked up at a neighbors house. My husband loves just plain old canned pears in a very light syrup. My mother used to make preserves but we just do not eat many preserves or jellies now that all the kids are gone. I think our first frost is not far off either. Our predicted low tonight is 37 and tomorrow night too. So we are not far off. I think I will lose all the figs on my tree that are yet not ripe. Sad. They were late to ripen due to die back from last winter. They were even covered with straw and a tarp. It was just an unseasonably cold winter. Maybe next year. I adore old houses in theory but would not like to maintain one. My house was built in 1984 and maintaining it is bad enough. It has a brick exterior that has to be cleaned of green algae every year. Usually with bleach and a pressure washer. The gutters are a pain for us to keep clean under all these big trees. I think next year my sheds will get a new coat of paint.

I love fall and I adore having large trees in my yard. But....Spent the day yesterday blowing, raking and dealing with leaves. Burned a ton of hickory nut shells which I hate. The squirrels chew them off the nuts and drop them and the nut shells and they are as sharp as razors. I pick them up and burn them along with as many hickory nuts as possible to keep them from going through my windows from the lawn mower. Shoulders ae sore from the rake and blower. Planted 2 red trumpet vines and trimmed my Knockout rose bush and put on fresh soil conditioner and mulch.

Made a few jars of mixed pickles at the weekend while the boy had a couple of days off work. He did most of the work, I just gave instructions.

A pain! I can't do anything much and I'm stuck like this for another 4 weeks. It's my right elbow that's broken and I'm right handed. The boy has stepped up though and does what he can when he's not at work.
