You know, every year one certain bug outshines the others in population. I was certain from the news 2021 would be cicadas! Some years it is ladybugs, rollie pollies, June bugs, ants, lightning bugs, stink bugs and the list goes on....
This year when spring weather set in, I was planting fruit trees and at the end of this success I was so exhausted with sweaty salt in my eyes that I just decided to sit in the grass on the ground and relax. Unknowingly in the grass were tiny ticks that latched onto me very quickly, while I sat! Shortly after a new neighbor walked over to introduce herself and pointed out a tick on my shirt!!!
It has been a very long time since I remember encountering a tick! Later I found another tick latched on under my armpit area!! I killed it, once removed, and flushed it down my commode.
BIG MISTAKE!!!! A week later a rash and fever under my armpit, larger than the bite area, formed and brought me great pain from a pimple left behind from the tick bite. It swelled and ran fever more during the night. I dealt with this for close to a week before I began to find relief! Believe it or not hand sanitizer gave me more relief than anything else I tried for relief.
I have learned something from this I want to share. If you find a tick on you where it bit you, once removed, do kill it, do not flush it!!! Best advice is place it in a plastic bag and seal, then freeze or save, this way if you have a reaction from the bite you will have the tick to take with you to the Dr. and it can be lab tested for diseases that it may be carrying. Be aware of this and enjoy your summer anyway, we need all the outlet we are allowed after a year of co-vid. I survived and learned a valuable lesson from it! 💡
