The snow storm has hit us heavy. I am still carng for my grandma, and we are now snowed in with no running water. Thankfully, we have a lot of bottled water, and a Berkey water filter. So my cousin and I have been melting snow to use for flushing toilets. And the furnace is working well. We are all doing well.
I can see where my own emergency planning has hit some snags. It isnt enough to have extra water, but you definitely dont want to be using good drinking water for flushing toilets! And dirty dishes? Even canned foods will leave you with empty, dirty jars to clean. So trying to ponder what good options are for the minimum fuss. Either way, canned goods are top priority, as they are nutritious and only need heating.

I say keep melting that snow for washing dishes too! Might as well use it. I hope your not snowed in for too long- much less without running water! Praying y'all stay safe and well. We have been getting more ice here the last couple hours, instead of the snow they predicted so it should make our totals less than originally thought. but I can't say ice is a good alternative.

I would totally prefer snow over ice! Please be safe! We are using paper products, in order to not have to wash anything.

I remember it was a bad snow storm early in my wife and I's marriage that first got us into thinking about preparedness and having life's essentials stocked and ready, in case things like that ever happened. Sadly, that first time, we were very ill-prepared; it taught us a valuable lesson.
People often view others who are prepared as "preppers", who are focused on doomsday or Armageddon, but in reality, being prepared is simply a way of life that brings comfort, security, and peace of mind. Hope everyone is staying safe; this too shall pass.

handmaid, how are things in your neck of the woods? Did you get your water running again?

handmaid , how are things in your neck of the woods? Did you get your water running again? It was my grandma's water, followed nearly immediately by almost half of her electric, and then a toilet leak which ruined her bathroom flooring. My husband has been busy with honey-do lists this week! Lol. Everything is usable again, with only minor repairs still needed. Thanks for asking!

Sorry about the damages, but good to hear your husband is getting things back in order. Hang in there!
