For those of you who buy seed potatoes and don't save your own- where do you buy them?

I have bought them online at most companies that you buy seeds but any more I usually just pick them up at the local farmer's co op.

For those of you who buy seed potatoes and don't save your own- where do you buy them? Co-ops or feed stores are a good way. When I worked a co-worker asked everyone that had potatoes at home (store bought to consume) that were going to seed to please give to him as he was planting them. Seriously he got a great response and was thrilled. They will grow if you cut the potatoes where you have a few eyes on each chunck you plant.

Typically, the local feed stores (Family Farm & Home, TSC, Rural King, etc.) will have them early spring. I normally get my seed potatoes and onion bulbs there.

momof6, potatoes do best in a light, sandy soil; what's the ground like where you've planted them?

I didn't think its was that bad but when I dig them up I find small rocks around the spuds. I tried grow bags once and they didn't get very big. I got a bunch of little ones though. Maybe taters just aint right in my small garden.

Last year, they made 24" hoops out of fencing, lined the outside with cardboard and straw, and simply grew potatoes above ground, so-to-speak. Here's a picture similar to what they did.
Something like that may be worth a shot!
