Planted the strawberries, direct sowed some lettuce and chard. Moved my echinacea plants to a flower bed in order to free up space for tomatoes. We just got back from my farmer in-laws last night.

Frost last night and tonight. The dance of the last frosts as winter transitions into spring. Nerve racking for every gardener as we wonder at what the casualties will be to those summer harvests. Every year I lose something harvest wise but thankfully each year it is something different. If I continuously lose the same crop then I take it as a sign to rethink that crop. Apples are a perfect example and in my region they succumb to late frost every 2 out of 3 years. Meaning you would only see a crop every 3 years. There are plenty of other crops out there with better odds of producing every year.

Seedlings up in my winter sown jugs are broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, and romaine lettuce. In the garden potatoes, onions, garlic, mustard greens, turnips, green onions, beets, green peas and spinach. All cool season and cold tolerant to an extent. Time will tell.

Well never take a trip and leave newly sown seeds on the hot pad. They were a good 4-5 inches of scraggly leggy nothingness when we got back.

Can you believe we mowed the grass today in spots. Some spots higher than others where it stays moist. Turned compost piles and hauled a couple loads of sawdust to add to the litter in the bottom of the chicken runs. It absorbs those spring rains and helps keep the mud under control. Tomorrow turn piles again and clean out the worm bed and add new beding. Picked up sticks for an elderly neighbor and will burn at first opportunity or when I can get a burn permit.

Sooo much rain today. If we had ducks they would be in heaven.
Our lawn was mowed this past weekend too! The weeds were going to seed. 😂

The fowers are beautiful this spring. Lots of iris, peony and I noticed my oak leaf hydrangea is starting to bloom also. The summer is fast approaching though.
