Hi All, Have not checked in for awhile. Busy with family and wrapping up trying to prepare for winter! Hope all is well for each of you! We are getting a lot of rain today from the coast. Still a lot to do...and also love to read so... One for the Blackbird and One for the Crow, since it kept popping up at me to read for free.

Made a few jars of mixed pickles at the weekend while the boy had a couple of days off work. He did most of the work, I just gave instructions.
Beautiful! Just think you achieved 2 beautiful jars and taught a young lad to know now how to do this himself and he will have this knowledge his whole life through by having hands on when you taught him this, when your hands needed his, and he met you in the middle and accomplished. Proud of both of you! Hang in there, you got the right idea to benefit all! Thanks for sharing this post! Quiet uplifting!!! Try to stay positive...it will get better! 💞

Been busy organizing and figuring out what to do with odds and ends. The greens I planted are coming up. What a joy to know there is still food coming in. The tomatoes are still producing. I am really looking forward to the canning season wrapping up.

Handmaid my carrots, beets, turnips and greens came up too! Hoping for a few before winter creeps in. It has rained here all weekend. Ducks are loving the puddles.

So far I did get the the boiled peanuts completed and froze them instead of canning. I am searching for my weights for the canner still. They are here, just misplaced...lol! I have a churn of muscadine wine started and will pickle eggs in day or so. I dehydrated the scorpion peppers and used one for peanuts and one went into a lotion. I also put 2 quarts tomato peelings in food processor and chopped, now I have just over half a quart tomato peelings.

I will also make some parched peanuts very soon to save all the peanuts before they disappear from snacking, or possibly mold.

It has hardly stopped raining for nearly two weeks. The Decorator popped round today to let me know the exterior painting is on hold now til next spring. It's too damp to get paint to go off now we are heading into winter. In other news, I went to the phsioterrorist today he's given me some gentle exercises to help stop my arm getting stiff, I'm to see him in 3 weeks after I've been to the fracture clinic for some intensive physio and more exercises.

If you could find it, then be able to accept the scent, Vicks vapor rub salve does wonders if rubbed into skin of affected area. It will help with the soreness. All that rain is not good for a broken bone, due to barometric pressure. Best wishes and God's speed on your recovery!

Funnily enough, I love the smell of Vicks and I always have a jar in the house so I will give it a go.

My husband came home with 20 pounds of peanuts, 20 pounds of apples, 5 pounds of pecans and sweet potatoes. Back to canning boiled eanuts and applesauce. Making apple cider vinegar and apple hot tea and dehydrating sweet potatoes for bark or powder. Back to it!

On the churn/crock conversation. My Mom had 2. After her passing, my sister chose 1 and I took the other. Years later, my elder brother requested one, from memories of churning butter in it. I gave him mine I had kept. Ironically, several years later, I happened to locate my Mother's Mom's churn (my Granny) accidentally through helping someone in family who did not have use for it. I purchased it and feel like I hit gold. I did what was right by my brother, and in return, fate blessed me with Grannies, whom I was very close to as a child also.

Today is for getting caught up, still. Our potatoes from this season were already shriveling and looking puny. So I peeled and sliced them for the dehydrator, aka Hickory Holler style. Our green bean vines have FINALLY started to produce. Sweet peppers into the freezer.
