DirtDiva, I have a question or two about your relish recipe. Are they refrigerator pickles/relish? Or shelf stable? You say at the bottom of the post something about refrigerator pickles, and i wasnt sure if you meant the relish recipe or another one. Secondly, do you sprinkle the full recipe amount of salt over the batch before soaking, or just part of the recipe? hickeryhollerfarm.blogspot.com/2013/07/dill-relish.html

1/2 cup full salt recipe over the pickles. If done like Ball shelf stable. Mine are shelf stable I just do not waterbath as long. I personally think Ball cooks their food to death when it comes to pickles. That is why everyone complains of mushy pickles. Just the way I do it. Pickles are one of the few foods that I do not follow standard recipes exactly.
