Dug new potatoes yesterday and going to can them today. Tied up my tomatoes yet again. Lord they are loving this heat and growing like bad weeds. I will have green beans by the end of the week or the first of next week. The hosta is blooming and is beautiful. Japanese beetles seem to be not as plentiful. My ducks love them. Yuck!

Thanks so much! I will have to try the painting the eggs, I have been raking them off into a jar. I hate squash bugs. I have planted new squash, and cucumbers yesterday, in a new area. We are so dry in our area. Are you getting much rain this week?
About tomatoes, I mulch with straw and also take off all the bottom leaves due to soil-borne disease. I have used copper and calcium in past years, as well as a "homemade type" blight control for my tomatoes. I have used copper already, but not calcium this year. I am going to try your milk wash. I usually don't have this problem. It is only my roma tomatoes. My canning tomatoes and heirloom tomatoes are doing great. I love tomatoes, and can alot of with tomatoes so I usually grow 150 plus plants a year. Crop rotation happens as well. However, my garden area has been gardened or farmed for the last 50 plus years. Before it was my garden, my dad grew tobacco here for years, then it was the family corn patch, now it's my garden. We grow quite a big garden in one area, and I am pretty sure the soil needs help. Do you find your raised beds produce like your gardens did? I will say I loved your garden soil haha! Thank you for creating this forum! THANK you!!

It thundered here and we just knew we would get it. It missed us. I should also say about the tomatoes we didn't get to mulch as heavily as usual. My husband's job was affected by covid 19 and was shut down for 8 plus weeks. Because of the line of work he does (waste water in a factory) he had to clock in 2-4 hours a day, so we didn't get any unemployment just 16 hours pay a week. So we didn't get to do as much as normal due to lack of income. I guess that has really affected us. I do believe you are correct on the Fusarium wilt on my Roma's. I do think I will just pull them out and burn them. I am so thankful you got rain!!

I got the corn seed in and planted yesterday. The store bought red potatoes we planted a few weeks ago have shriveled up and rotted. We knew it wasn't the right time of year to plant, but thought it was worth a try. The turnips are coming up and the Thelma Sanders winter squash is growing. Our sweet potatoes are growing very well and we are hopeful for a good crop. We are finally going to eat our first ripening tomato today. It's a really odd gardening year!

New potatoes in jars and green onions in the dehydrator.

I found army worms on my tomatoes this morning. Any suggestions on getting rid of them? My first choice after picking them off is Bt for almost any worm or caterpillar. My second choice would be Neem especially on tomatoes because it is antifungal. Both organically approved choices.

I finally got out to the garden today. This week has been a whirlwind of oddities: air conditioner in the house died, grandma was ill for a day, worked several odd jobs, and mysteriously found myself COVERED in bug bites. So this morning I slathered on the bug spray, and harvested our onions. Pulled a couple carrots to see if they actually grew anything this year (yes! Hooray!). And trimmed up most of the tomato plants. I dont have a clue what I am doing.
Got our water bill today. It is the first one we have received since expanding from a 200sq ft garden to a 600 sq ft garden. We have everything on drip irrigation, so I thought the bill would only be slightly higher. But it was more than triple what we expected. So will have to re-evaluate things.
Picked a mountain of cucumbers. But while the house is 19 bajillion degrees inside, canning will have to wait. This will be my first year doing pickles.
