I don't know about everyone else but between Covid and all this election unrest I am just a nervous wreck. What an absolute mess I keep reminding myself the sun will rise tomorrow and there will be happy times again.

I am not burying my head in the sand. But I am making a concerted effort to pray and pray and stay off news broadcasts. Fear is not a friend.
My mom gave me her china hutch. In it is my great-grandma's china. She purchased it plate by plate during the Great Depression. Every time I see it I think of God's faithfulness to provide even during economic hardship. He made sure she had enough to save up for china dishes. Dishes! How sweet is that!
Sunday we took a new mattress to my grandma's house. She has been sleeping on a 25 yr old mattress. She is 98. Ever since I can remember, she has been one to get up many times during the night. Well, her first night on that mattress was miraculous in that she woke up once. Not only that, but for someone with severe scoliosis, she slept sprawled out like a child. Said it was the best night's sleep she has ever had. In the middle of everything that is going on in the world, God provided a new mattress for my aged grandma.
When she was 4 yrs old, she and her older brother came to America from Germany. They were sent to the States because family could see the direction Germany was headed and wanted to get them to safety.
I guess I just say all this as a testimony of the major national and personal traumas people can experience. And how God is faithful and good, regardless of the outcome of the circumstances around us. So while I am praying for the current situations, I am also choosing to praise and remember who He is. Please dont give fear more airtime than God. God is good, and His mercy endures forever.
Maybe we could do a testimony thread to keep everyone encouraged?

It just makes me angry or depresses me. Such a sweet grandmother! I keep telling myself that we all go through adversity and that just makes us stronger. It's funny when I get mad I clean house. When I get upset or frustrated I head to church. Church for me is my garden. A place for tears, contemplation and prayer. I am drawn to the earth and nature for comfort. Have been since I was a young child. That is my coping mechanism.

You're right to take pleasure in the small things. Family grounds us like nothing else and in these uncertain times, finding joy anywhere is something to be celebrated, good on your gran for enjoying her new mattress, may she have many, many more sound sleeps on it!
I'm another one who has stopped watching the news. Sick of it all.

I've noticed my anxiety is significantly less when I avoid the news. It seems like it's all changed. When I was a kid, the news was never doom and gloom like it is today; granted, bad things happened, but the media didn't dwell on it for days on end. Today, it seems like we only hear about the worst things in the world. I'm glad we can come here, to communities like this, and see some of the good still happening in the world... People growing food, helping one another out... This is the news I am here for.
