Show-off!! My little tree is still in a pot and refuses to keep the figlets past thumbnail size. I had a beautiful tree that I'd planted at a previous house that was just starting to produce a good crop when we moved The secret to a large Fig crops is root restriction or root pruning.

I have a variety called Chicago Hardy that is 3 years old now. It produced for the last 2 years. I have to wrap it to protect from harsh winters. Last year despite a wrapping on straw and chopped leaves and wrapped in a tarp it still froze to the . SO as a result had to devote all it's energy to regrowing branches. While it has a healthy fig crop by the time they are ready to ripen this year it is frost time. SO the hand full that I got to eat fresh is all that I will get for the year. I am hoping for a milder winter this year and a larger crop next year. Some years you win and some years you lose.

What is the secret to growing figs? Every fig tree we’ve planted over the years has died.

I planted my figs on the south side of 2 sheds. The buildings I think help protect them from winds etc. Rich soil, plenty water and lots of heat.
