My husband and I are praying about relocating from IL to the high desert of AZ, elevation 5000; I have family out there who are homesteading-minded. Are any of you high desert gardeners? I have been trying to research gardening in the high desert, but there isnt much info out there. Politics aside, I like IL, but we are restricted at our current location from having any animals of the farm variety, including chickens or meat rabbits. We have a good community of friends and believers and a good church here. Lots of pros and cons for staying or going.
I should mention I am in several high desert Facebook groups for learning purposes.

I live in Utah, high desert at about 4500.. I have a great garden, can raise almost anything. You might check out Utah Backyard Homsteading for information. I do mulch everything heavily, and use drip irrigation to save on water. The mulch also keeps the weeds down. Good luck with making your decision.
